When a school full of wimps gets repeatedly plundered by a teenage biker gang, the student council decides to hire a crew of “yojimbo” (bodyguards) to defend themselves. Though they expect to find some martial arts dudes to fill the role, what they get instead is a crew of tough-as-nails ladies! The team includes a whip-smart motorcyclist, a stunt-woman who specializes in ninja roles, a homemade weapons expert, and a razor-wielding “sukeban” (girl gang boss). This crew whips the nerds into battle-readiness, and while their first skirmish is a success, the biker gang’s leader emerges from the shadows, revealing a cold-as-ice bitch ready to lead her gang to vengeance.
GO FOR BROKE is an entirely bonkers and utterly joyful 80s action film overtly inspired by the Japanese classic SEVEN SAMURAI but with a healthy dose of THE ROAD WARRIOR to give it a wild modern twist. Given it was directed by pink film pioneer Genji Nakamura, you might expect a total sleaze fest but instead GO FOR BROKE is pure triumphant action spectacle all the way, much like the films that inspired it, but with a slick 1980s pop bubbliness that marks it out as its own big-haired beast.
